Hankyu Umeda Christmas Market 2026 in Osaka: Dates, the Mirror Ball Tree Show and the Famous Christmas Windows

Every winter, Osaka's Hankyu Umeda department store turns into one of the city's most festive Christmas spots. The 9th-floor Christmas Market opens on November 18, 2026, and the famous street-level Christmas windows light up from November 12. Here are the dates, show times and the new scent effect, based on Hankyu's official announcements.

This year's theme is “Tie the Magic” — a magical Christmas that brings hearts closer together. The centerpieces are a mirror ball tree about 8 m tall and a merry-go-round in the store's 9th-floor Festival Square (Shukusai Hiroba).

  • Dates: November 18 to December 25, 2026
  • The event hall closes on December 20 (5 p.m. on the last day; partly closed on December 1)
  • The Festival Square runs until December 25 (closes at 5 p.m. on the last day)
  • Place: Hankyu Umeda Main Store, 9th floor

The mirror ball tree show — now with scents

The mirror ball tree comes alive with music and light, and for the first time this year, the show also has scents: a snowy-forest scent before it starts, and a “Happy Merry Christmas” scent at the climax.

  • November 19 to December 25
  • Every hour on the hour, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last show at 4 p.m. on December 25)
  • The scent fills the square from 5 minutes before each show until it ends

The merry-go-round needs a reservation

  • November 19 to December 25, ¥350 per ride (same price for adults and children)
  • You need to reserve a date and time; ticket sales run from 10 a.m. on November 4 to 3 p.m. on December 25
  • Tickets are not sold at the store

Hankyu's street-level concourse windows are an Umeda Christmas tradition. This year's theme is “The Secret Christmas Party”: seven windows become a giant snow globe showing Christmas parties around the world — deep in a forest, under the sea, above the clouds and in the city. About every 8 minutes, the scene switches to a light-and-sound show. See if you can spot Santa hiding in the windows.

  • Dates: November 12 to December 25, 2026
  • Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (the light-and-sound shows start after 10:10 a.m.)
