Visiting Japan in November or December? You don't need a ticket to enjoy Christmas here — whole streets, stations and waterfronts light up. Here are five city light-ups for Christmas 2026 in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka and Sapporo, with dates and hours from the organizers' official announcements.
Roppongi Hills Christmas 2026 (Tokyo)

Keyakizaka Street turns into a 400 m tunnel of light — one of Tokyo's classic winter sights. The Christmas market celebrates its 20th edition this year with special limited goods, and a new tree made of hand-shaped petals appears in West Walk.
- Keyakizaka illumination: Nov 5 – Dec 25, 17:00–22:00
- Christmas market (O-yane Plaza): Nov 21 – Dec 25, 11:00–21:00
- Japanese name to search on maps: 六本木ヒルズ けやき坂
Tokyo Skytree Town Dream Christmas 2026 (Tokyo)

About 400,000 gold lights under the theme "Wish Upon a Star," with an 8 m star tree in the 4F Skyarena. The 11th "Christmas Market in a Picture Book" features a giant stollen about 4 m long. On December 24 and 25, the Tembo Deck holds its first candlelight concert (observation deck ticket required).
- Illumination: Nov 5 – Dec 25, 16:00–23:00 (some lights until Feb 28, 2027)
- Christmas market: Nov 5 – Dec 25, 11:00–22:00 (last order 21:00)
- Japanese name: 東京スカイツリータウン ドリームクリスマス
Yorunoyo 2026 (Yokohama)

Yokohama uses its whole waterfront as a stage — and it's free. In the 5-minute "Highlight of Yokohama" show, lights on a record 50 buildings across about 3 km, from Minato Mirai to Yamashita Park, move together with music, every 30 minutes from 17:00. At Osanbashi Pier, a 25 m whale of light appears in a projection-mapping show.
- Dates: Dec 4 – Dec 30, 17:00–21:05
- Where: Osanbashi Pier, Yamashita Park and the waterfront
- Free admission
Twilight Fantasy 2026 at Osaka Station City (Osaka)
JR Osaka Station teams up with Tom and Jerry this year. Gold lights and Tom and Jerry photo spots surround the Gold Clock in the 5F Toki no Hiroba plaza — easy to see when you're changing trains. A digital stamp rally around six spots gives a clear file to the first 5,000 people.
- Lights: Nov 11 – Dec 25, 17:00–23:00 (from 18:30 on Nov 11)
- Photo time, character greetings and the market are free
Shiroi Koibito Park Sweet Illumination 2026 (Sapporo)

Shiroi Koibito, Hokkaido's best-known souvenir cookie, turns 50, and its factory park in Sapporo celebrates with a big heart inspired by the package, which sparkles at :15 and :45 every hour. Limited sweets include a 50th-anniversary Shiroi Koibito soft-serve (¥650).
- Dates: Dec 1, 2026 – Mar 31, 2027
- Open 10:00–19:00 (last entry to paid areas 16:30); closed Jan 1–2
Tips for your trip
- Weekday evenings are much calmer than the weekends before Christmas and December 24–25 (Christmas Eve is a date night in Japan).
- Yokohama's waterfront and Sapporo get very cold at night — bring gloves and a warm layer.
- The Tokyo lights and Osaka are easy to add to a shopping evening; Yorunoyo is best planned as a night out in Yokohama.
